Deafness
Deafness has become a fact of life for millions. But as we see in this section, it is no longer reserved for the oldest segement of our population.
Deafness is not something that many people look forward to. However, with age our hearing system begins to lose its ability to withstand the abuse we impose on our ears over the years. Whether dealing with hearing loss that has been accelerated by exposure to leading loud lives in loud cities and at loud jobs, or listening to loud music while getting from one area to another, our systems eventually succumb to the irreparable damage we cause.
Whether this damage results in noise deafness or in gradual hearing loss, hearing aids exist to help us deal with the consequences of deafness.
Knowing the symptoms of deafness is instrumental in catching deafness before the damage gets worse. This is important because the sooner one catches any kind of medical condition, the better the technology and medicine can help an individual adapt and, of course, improve their quality of life. The longer one waits, the worse their hearing will become and less any technology or medical treatment can do to improve the situation.
With this in mind, it is strongly recommended that at the first signs of deafness, individuals should seek the advice and feedback of a hearing specialist.
